Norridge is a village in County Cook, Illinois. This village shares a border with Chicago. Norridge is often referred to an “Island within the city”. Its name is a combination of Norwood Park and Smiths Ridge. It is believed that this name was suggested by one of the residents there. The village of Norridge holds a completely separate identity from the city of Chicago. The year 1950 was an era of development for this village as they started building sidewalks, streets, curbs, and water work systems.
This is when they started installing storm and sanitary sewers as well. Norridge then further expanded by adding land from Montrose to Lawrence. It is a diverse community with most people coming from Polish and Italian heritage. The Asian and Hispanic populations are also increasing gradually here.
Norridge also has an established a youth committee that promotes social and athletic events. It is a site for sore eyes with its beautiful parks. The Harlem Irving Plaza Mall is an exciting place to visit in Norridge. It was established in 1955 with a total of 45 stores and opened 140 stores by the 1990s. Norridge also has a host of other places to visit such as Putting edge and Go Bananas. The Fashion Outlets of Chicago are only 3.3 miles from Irving Plaza. Norridge has mostly bungalow and ranch-style houses.
